ParticipantIs it expected behavior for recurring events to generate a new slug when you edit a single occurrence?
My event series has a custom recurrence (3rd Thursday of every month) with a slug of /event-one/2014-01-16 for January, 2014-02-20 for February, etc.
My intention was to create the recurring event, a meeting in this case, and then edit individual instances by adding an agenda or relevant document as the documents become available. However, when I modify a single occurrence I end up with a new event slug /event-one-2 which removes it from inclusion in the list of dates for the recurring event.
I’d rather attach a media file to a specific instance within the recurring event to maintain the same slug format as the rest… the only solution I can think of at the moment is to simply create individual events to control the slug format, but that limits my usage of the recurring event functionality.January 3, 2014 at 7:15 am #86145Barry
MemberUnfortunately it’s a limitation of the current recurring event mechanism that you cannot change the description or other attributes of an event that’s part of a larger chain. Doing so, as you’ve discovered, actually splits the ‘chain’ in two. So say you have recurring events as follows:
- Feb 1
- Mar 1
- Apr 1
- May 1
Editing the Apr 1 instance to change the description (and hitting the button to apply the change to the current and all future instances) will actually split it into one chain of two original, unmodified events:
- Feb 1
- Mar 1
Plus a second chain with your modified description:
- Apr 1
- May 1
This is by design, but we are investigating a different approach that will allow individual events within a recurring sequence to have different descriptions, venues, etc – though that is still in the design phase at this time.

MemberHi snorton: does that at least explain the background to the situation / do you think it might be something different in your case?
