We’re having a issue since upgrading to Pro. When you visit http://www.winderdowntown.com the drop down menu and the slider feature of the site fails to function properly. The slider boxes do not slide and the drop down menu disappears when you scroll over a main menu option and the drop down appears (the drop down disappears when you attempt to click on a link in the drop down).

When we disabled EC and EC Pro all returns to normal.

We’re running the latest version of jQuery (as we were asked to upgrade it before posting on the forum) and Word Press 3.4.3-alpha.

    We’re stumped.

    Hi!

You are currently running with jQuery 1.6.4 on your site. That is a comparatively old version of jQuery – by contrast, the current version of WordPress ships with 1.8.3 and that is the version that The Events Calendar expects.

You can find a summary of this issue in this thread – but note that it is not necessarily your theme which is causing this older version of jQuery to be used – it could be one of your plugins.

In the first instance it would definitely be worth exploring a switch to the shipped version of jQuery before we look at this further.

    Thanks!

If it helps at all, you can confirm this by looking at the source for your homepage where you will see:

    <script type='text/javascript' src='http://winderdowntown.com/wp-content/themes/theme1541/js/jquery-1.6.4.min.js?ver=1.6.4'>

Hello, we’re having issues updating jQuery. I’ve installed a jQuery plugin to automatically update it within the admin panel of WordPress. But I’m not sure how to update it within the website/theme. Are there any tutorials out there I can read up on? Thanks Barry.

As a general rule I’d recommend using the same version of jQuery as ships with your version of WordPress.

I’m not sure why you need a plugin to manage this or why it isn’t impacting on your theme (if I’m understanding you correctly) but it would probably be better to seek help from the plugin author and the theme author respectively on this one.

I’ve disabled all plugins and the site works fine. I enable the The Events Calendar and The Events Calendar Pro plugins and the site slider and menu system fail to function properly. I enable jQuery Migrate and jQuery Updater and the problem persists.

TemplateMonster.com will not provide support as they’ve ruled out it’s not their theme at fault, it’s a plugin, specifically The Events Calendar and The Events Calendar Pro. Note that before we installed the Pro version, all was well and everything worked properly. It was when we installed The Events Calendar Pro that the site became unstable.

OK, but this still would seem to relate to the fact that a much earlier version of jQuery is in use on your site (it is still at version 1.6.4) than ships with current releases of WordPress as standard – and it is that more up-to-date, default version of jQuery that our plugin quite reasonably expects to be present.

There’s not a lot we can really do if your theme (assuming it is your theme and not another plugin) is enforcing that.

If you are still unsure as to whether it is indeed your theme or in fact another plugin which is enqueuing this earlier version of jQuery (I’m not absolutely sure we’ve determined that just yet) then the first thing to do is run through our complete troubleshooting steps which can help you to do just that by means of a process of elimination:

    • Please ensure that your Modern Tribe plugins are up-to-date and in-synch … for instance if you are using The Events Calendar 2.0.11 you must also use Events Calendar PRO 2.0.11
    • Deactivate all other plugins and change your theme to a default, unmodified one such as Twenty Eleven or Twenty Twelve
    • Now test to see if the problem still exists
    • If the problem has been solved by these steps, start reactivating everything one-at-a-time, testing at each point to see if the issue has returned
    • If the issue does return, take note of whichever plugin (or theme) you reactivated immediately before it started again – it’s likely there is a conflict with this item

Once you determine the cause you should go to the plugin vendor (or theme vendor) and seek their advice.

Now I appreciate you’ve already taken this to the theme vendor so, if it is definitely their theme which is causing this older version of jQuery to be used, and they won’t do anything to change that, then realistically there is not a lot we can do either.
