ParticipantHi guys,
I’m no developer, so I’m hoping that this’ not going to be too difficult!
What I would like to do is:I am setting up a calendar which will host a good few different events under different catargories for sport events.
I have seen the how-to for colour-coding them and I’m going to give that a bash! What I’d like to achieve that I’ve not seen yet, is to have a dropdown menu for the events (in the event that there is more than one for that day in the same catagory).So in other words, if there are 4 different catagories and the visitor is in the general *everything / all catagories displaying* view, then there may be three or four different, colour-coded drop-down menus.
Am I making sense?

MemberHey Christopher. Thanks for reaching out. So you’re saying you just want a dropdown to appear in grid view, right? Something that allows users viewing the grid to drill down to just a specific category (rather than viewing the entire calendar, as occurs by default)? Just want to make sure I’m clear here. We’ve had a few requests for that over the past few days so I want to make sure this relates to that same item. Thanks!

ParticipantHi there Rob,
That is exactly correct! My reasoning being that I want to keep the calander as ‘neat’ as possible and with say perhaps ten events per day, it gets big, fast.
A dropdown per catagory would eliminate that nicely 🙂This would be used in two views really:
1: The grid view where ‘everything is shown’ and;
2: In a grid view with events in a specific catagory.I hope that clarifies what I mean?
Thanks!

MemberThanks Christopher. This does clarify; most appreciated. We have gotten a number of requests for this since 2.0 launched and are just now talking about how to best approach it. Let me see what the level of effort required here is, and whether this is something we could put together a tutorial for the community on – otherwise we’ll try and work it into a future release. I’ll let you know when I’ve heard more one way or another.

ParticipantBrilliant thanks! I’d be keen to give it a bash in a tutorial (of be a beta tester for you) if putting it in a new release it too far down the road?

MemberChristopher: we would certainly appreciate it, and have published user-provided tutorials before (ie: https://theeventscalendar.com/integrating-wordpress-categories-tags-with-your-events/). If that’s something you’d be interested in putting together we would give you a spot to publish it here after a code review on our end. Let me know if you’re game.

MemberThanks Christopher. If you give it a go and find you’re having problems, let us know and I’ll get the dev who put that together to try and troubleshoot.
