"Don't list me on the public attendee list" issue

I see old threads and a css hack to hide this, but that isn’t a fix because the names would still be in the code. I’d prefer not to hack code if it isn’t needed, is a setting to simply disable this?

Are you saying you want that checkbox hidden so users cannot opt-out, or are you saying you want it as if all users did check that box?
