Do free events still have to go through the checkout process?

Hi, I’m considering the Event Tickets and/or Event Tickets Plus add-on. We have a mix of free and paid events. If someone wants to RSVP to a free event only, do they still have to “Add to Cart” and go through the WooCommerce checkout process? Or can they simply fill in their registration information?

To clarify… I know that the free Event Tickets plugin does exactly this. But because we also have a few paid events, we would have to upgrade to Event Tickets Plus to collect payment. So if I upgrade to Event Tickets Plus, but the event is free and the user is not registering for any paid events, will the registration process operate like Event Tickets? Or will it have to go through WooCommerce instead?

Thanks for reaching out.

When you have Event Tickets and Event Tickets Plus active at the same time, you have two “Ticket Types” you can choose from for any given ticket:

• WooCommerce Ticket — this one is what runs through the WooCommerce checkout system, so you can charge money for it, etc.
• RSVP Ticket — this is always free and is a simple “Going” / “Not Going” response, which you may already be familiar with because this is what Event Tickets provides.

☝️ Now, if you make a WooCommerce Ticket that costs $0.00 (i.e., it’s free), then yes, it will still make the user go through the WooCommerce checkout process.

However, an RSVP Ticket will not ever go through the WooCommerce checkout process.
