Displaying Recent (Past) Events

I’d like to create a page that displays a simple grid of the Featured Images from all Events — each linking to the single event details for that event. The goal is to showcase “Past Speakers”

Seems like this should work easily and elegantly with Widgets on Pages and a simple plugin like Advanced Recent Posts or WPMU’s Recent Custom Posts, and a little CSS formatting.

… And it does work nicely, but only displays events.

I assume this is because of some setting in Events Calendar Pro — which is why the Event List widget shows upcoming, rather than past, events? Is there a way to work around this?

I’m not massively familiar with the plugins/tools you’ve referenced but you envision a need to write some custom code to retrieve the events you need by using a function like tribe_get_events() (which is very similar in terms of accepted arguments to WordPress’s get_posts() function, but adds some event specific ones).

Unfortunately we can’t offer too much help for custom extensions like this – though it’s fantastic to hear that things like this are being created 🙂 – but if you do have any more specific questions you think we might be able to help with certainly feel free to ask (making new threads as appropriate).
