Scott
MemberHello,
I followed the instructions exactly as in the video on upgrading from 1.6.5 (although my version is 1.6.4):
1. Go to “Add New”
2. Upload the zip file the-events-calendar.2.0.3.zip
3. Click “Install Now”I get the following message:
Unpacking the package…
Installing the plugin…
Destination folder already exists. /home/sham2/public_html/wp-content/plugins/the-events-calendar/
Plugin install failed.I want to migrate my old events so I don’t want to delete the old “the-events-calendar” folder and start from scratch.
Thank you!

MemberI should add that I have disabled version 1.6.4 before attempting to “Add New” – and I’ve tried leaving it enabled. Neither one works.

MemberHi Scott. Thanks for the note and sorry to hear that you’re having issues. A couple points on this:
* Since 1.6.5 was the final 1.x free release, you should probably update to that before jumping to 2.0. We only tested against the 1.6.5 migration (nothing earlier) when launching 2.0, so to ensure everything goes smoothly I’d get that first. You can update from the backend of your WP install or right here: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/the-events-calendar/download/.
* Make sure to back up your site before jumping from 1.6.5 -> 2.0, just to be safe.
* If you can, rename the existing events folder so that the new one doesn’t create a conflict.Let me know if after following these steps, you’re still having issues and we can keep looking into it from there. Thanks!

MemberHi Rob,
If I rename the folder, how will it keep all my current events?
Thanks!

MemberBummer – still says the same thing after updating to 1.6.5. Could this have anything to do with having the site cloned on a development server and updating my vhosts file to work on the site?
I have updated 7 other plugins today with no issues doing this (and I’ve never had a problem in the past working on a site on a dev server/vhosts entry with IP and website listed).
Thanks,
Scott

MemberI tried updating the files in the folder (through FTP) and while it updated The Events Calendar, I’ve lost all my old events.
I will now use my backup.
Any idea what is going wrong here?

MemberI’m sorry – a little too quick on my reply. I forgot to migrate data (at the bottom of the page).
I see my old entries now. I will play around with it to confirm all is working.
QUESTION: It is okay that I updated by overwriting my old files in the-event-calendar folder instead of going through “Add New” correct?
Thanks,
Scott

MemberHey Scott. Sorry that it took me a little while to get back to you on this. When you say “instead of going through ‘Add New’,” do you mean adding the plugin or adding events on a case by case basis? Either way it shouldn’t have much impact…I’ve been testing that method you noted in my QA (sending the plugin up via FTP, overwriting the old build if prompted) and it worked fine.
Still having any issues on this? Let me know if so and we can keep digging into it for you.
