ParticipantI am trying to determine for sure how venues, organizers, and events relate under the hood. My main question:
Due to lack of dupe control on public submit form, I have 1000+ duplicate organizers and venues (exact post_title matches). (I know from this, https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/duplicate-venue-and-organizers-not-the-bug-that-was-fixed/#post-51536, that dupe control is not a feature, and I followed that advice and asked for it here: http://tribe.uservoice.com/forums/195723-feature-ideas/suggestions/4136552-include-management-options-for-duplicate-venues-an)
But if I go through and manually delete some of my main offender duplicates, will the existing events tied to those items become orphans or are they simply keyed by name?
I have not disabled all plugins and themes because this is not a bug report but rather a question about product function/data structure.

MemberHi Dan,
If you manually delete the duplicates then the events tied to them would indeed become orphaned – you’d basically have to edit them and “point” them to the venue that you are going to keep.
That’s definitely going to be a bit of a pain (and thanks for posting on UserVoice, by the way) … what I’d suggest, if you can wait just a little longer, is checking out if Events Calendar PRO 3.0 can fix this up for you. We’ve added a tool to that version which can be run once-only (ie, when you first upgrade) and it will merge duplicate venues and organizers and handle reassignment to the merged version – so that may very well solve this.
There is not a fixed release date that I can provide for 3.0, but I can say that we are now within an ace of releasing it.
