Hi,
I have a problem.
I modified an event from the past, and in so doing, I inadvertently set recurrence to daily. As such, the event is showing up every day in my calendar over many years, including years prior and into the future.
I tried to delete the event, and let it do its thing for the better part of an hour. Finally it stopped churning, and unfortunately the event was not deleted.
Can you help?
And separately, is there a way to change the default recurrence to monthly instead of daily so the damage is reduced if I make this mistake in the future?
Thanks in advance,
Al

I’m sorry that you’re running into this issue, but I’ll be happy to help you out.
When you say that you tried to delete the event, did you try changing the rules or deleting the entire series? I would recommend going into your original event and deleting the “daily” recurrence rule by clicking the trash can icon on the rule (see screenshot) – this should delete all instances of the event that no longer match the existing recurrence rules.
There is not a way to set a default recurrence rule, but you might be able to get this set up with a code customization – our themer’s guide is the place to start if you’d like to give this a shot!
Thanks,
Jennifer
July 17, 2018 at 1:58 pm #1577580algtmtadminParticipantHi Jennifer, thanks for the help.
I had Pro for a while years ago, but opted not to pay for the service at renewal (years ago). At some point in the past (don’t know when) I successfully created a weekly recurring event.
A week ago I finally decided to purchase the Pro service. Shortly thereafter I noticed when I clicked on it that this weekly event was missing a photo, which had been deleted from the library at some point. As a result I revisited the event, put the picture back in it, and I forget what I did exactly (did I edit the event? did I play with the recurrence schedule?), but now I have an event which recurs daily, as explained before.
Just before receipt of this email, I tried “deleting the “daily” recurrence rule by clicking the trash can icon on the rule”.
When I try this, I get:
The website cannot display the page
HTTP 500
Most likely causes:
a.. The website is under maintenance.
b.. The website has a programming error. What you can try:
Refresh the page.Go back to the previous page.

July 18, 2018 at 11:28 pm #1578774JenniferKeymasterThanks for sending that info! At this point, I would recommend deleting the series and recreating it – if you have a testing site, it would be best to do this there first. You can make a copy of your live site with the free Duplicator plugin if you don’t have a staging site set up already.
It is also possible that the current versions of our plugins are conflicting with something else on your site. You can test for this by running through the steps outlined here or by using a plugin like Health Check. It is also best to do this testing in your staging site. Whenever troubleshooting, it’s best to enable WP_DEBUG and WP_DEBUG_LOG (which will create a file on your server at /wp-content/debug.log if there are any WP_DEBUG messages) and share any debug messages you see while trying to replicate this issue and doing other things on your site relevant to this ticket (such as visiting your site’s home page, events page, single-event pages, and anything else you can think to do).
Please let me know what you find!
Thanks,
Jennifer
