Deleted Events and 404 Errors

    Hello

    I was hoping for some advice.
    As you can see we use our calendar quiet extensively with lots of events – http://www.cabrinicare.com.au/events/
    Awhile ago I deleted a heap of past events to reduce the size of the website … I’ve now received an email from Google saying there is reduced amount of 404 errors;


    Increase in “404” pages on http://www.cabrinicare.com.au/

    To: Webmaster of http://www.cabrinicare.com.au/,
    Googlebot for smartphones identified a significant increase in the number of URLs on http://www.cabrinicare.com.au/ that return a 404 (not found) error. If these pages exist on your desktop site, showing an error for mobile users can be a bad user experience. This misconfiguration can also prevent Google from showing the correct page in mobile search results. If these URLs don’t exist, no action is necessary.

    It says these URLs don’t exist no action is necessary, so do you recommend not worrying about it?
    or perhaps resubmit my sitemap?

    Thanks for reaching out with your question! I’m happy to assist you with this.

    If Google says not to worry about it, then I wouldn’t. 🙂

    Events come and go, just like some posts and pages. If they are removed or if they don’t exists it will give a 404, which is normal.

    If you would like to redirect traffic from past events that are deleted then you can use a redirection plugin to do that for you.
