ParticipantAfter fiddling for 2.5 hours, I will need to turn to you for answers to this strange occurrence. When I set up a recurring event that runs from nov. 19 through dec. 8th, set to recur daily, and later go in and update something about that event and apply the changes to all events in the series, two things occur: 1. the date that it is initially displayed on (which should be the first day in the series) changes to the second day in the series (and if you keep making changes and updating all it advances to the next date, next date, next date, etc.) and 2. sometimes instances of the event in the series disappear entirely.

MemberHi highfieldhall,
It may or may not be applicable, but the first thing to be aware of is that if you edit anything other than the very first event in a series then – regardless of whether you apply the update to just that instance or all (and all actually means all future instances) – it will break the chain in two or more pieces. As an example, you might start with a chain like:
* November 2
* November 9
* November 16
* November 22
* November 29And if you edit the second instance and apply the change to all you will end up with two separate chains – basically, in that example, one event by itself:
* November 2
Then a (now distinct) chain of the other event instances:
* November 9
* November 16
* November 22
* November 29Beyond that, can you A) confirm if this occurs with all other plugins deactivated and a default, unmodified theme such as Twenty Twelve running and B) can you share the information from the Events → Help admin screen listed under System Information?
Thanks!

ParticipantThank you for getting back to me so quickly. I was aware of editing the first event in the series. Rather than switch themes and deactivate plugins on a site that is live, I set up a new wordpress install using the same version of wordpress, events calendar and events calendar pro. I left it on the Twenty Twelve theme. I would like to give you the login to this demo site so that you see what is happening.
1. I created an all day event from 11/28 to 11/28
2. I set the recurrence to “Every Day and will end on 12/08)
3. On the front end everything looks fine. I see the first event in the series with the date Nov. 28th. In Settings I have it set to show only the first event in a recurring series.
4. I leave the Edit Event page and go to Events in the left hand navigation bar. I select Edit next to the first event in the series, nov. 28th. I add a featured image and apply to all events in the series.
5. On the front end, I see my first recurring event but it now shows the date Nov. 29.
6. I go back to Events and select edit next to the first event in the series, still Nov. 28th and simply hit UPDATE without making any changes. I apply it to all events in the series.
7. I check the front end and the date now reflected is Nov. 28th. However, this may seem like a fix, but it doesn’t work in all instances.
8. I go back to Events and edit the 1st event in the series, nov. 28th. I change the title of the event, hit UPDATE and apply to all events in the series.
9. I return to the front end and now the first event listed says it is dec. 5th.
10. At this point toggle “Show only the first upcoming instance of recurring events” so that it shows all of them, November 29th is now missing. Recall how above when I made my first edit to the first event in the series it changed the date to nov. 29 on the front end? In the backend if you look at events, Nov. 29th is no longer there.
11. I then go back to Event, click on the first event in the series, still nov. 28th, and change the description. I hit UPDATE and apply it to all events.
12. Return to the front end, make sure the “Show only the first upcoming instance of recurring events” is checked, and you now see the first event listed is Dec. 7th.If you will take the username and password to test this out, would I simply post back and mark this as a “private reply”?
Thanks!

MemberHi Christine,
Although I’m unable to replicate what you’ve described there is a very good chance that this will be resolved as of the next maintenance release – which is due to arrive shortly – as it makes a number of changes that may help to catch unusual edge cases with regards to updating recurring events.
If you can hold tight until that release arrives – it ought to be sometime over the course of the next week – that would be fantastic.
