I am looking to do exactly Medspeaks have done in this example. Is this via an add on or part of the pro plan or was it a customization?

Please let me know – as it would be helpful to make a purchase decision.

This busy site has added a totally custom search system that allows users to find events by category, type, and date or date range.

Perhaps reach out to MedSpeaks and see if they are willing to offer you a copy of the custom calendar template – I think for the list template.
