    Hi,

I do like a standard look and feel of the Advanced List Widget when it is displayed within the sidebar via the widget.

However, I need to use the widget shortcode to embed the events within pages, and in this case, I need to add some additional custom fields to the event list and change the look and feel of the output events list.

I know I can override list-widget.php file to customize the widget. However, I would like to keep the sidebar original look and feel and only customize the events widget when it is embedded via the shortcode inside a page. Is there a way to determine the placement of the widget (or any other way of distinguishing shortcode from the side bar widget will do ) and make customizations for the case when it is located within a page and not when it is embedded into a side bar via the widget.

    Thank you,
    Marina

What I basically need to accomplish is to display events in the list view on other pages filtered by categories and/or tags. I thought that the PRO widget would do it, but it outputs events in a different format that I like when it is displayed in the sidebar that I would like to keep. I just need help with displaying the List view on other pages preserving the main calendar list view look and feel and filtering the events by categories and tags.

    Hey Marina,

Thanks for reaching out to us!

If you need to modify it in certain instances, you could try using conditionals to only target the use within the post or within the shortcode. However, I’m not sure this would always be simple to differentiate between the default that you currently have and the new that you want to create.

It might be a little more complicated than what’s needed, but if what you’re wanting is different enough, it may be worth considering them as separate widgets and shortcodes. You could use the built in as a template for registering a new widget ( and then new shortcode) with the modified layout/options you need.

Let me know if this helps.

    Thanks!
