ParticipantWe need help customizing the header on the events page of this website. We are using The Event Plugin.
Here is a link to the events page.
http://dance.plushmarketingagency.com/events/
We would either like to add a header image. Like the link below
http://dance.plushmarketingagency.com/blog/
Or would like to add a countdown to the header that can countdown to an important event.
I saw a similar customization thread that was closed that is why I’m posting here. Can someone provide help or mention a contractor that could help us out. It would be greatly appreciated! Cheers!

ParticipantHowdy Nick,
That’s a great idea. I really like that theme. It definitely looks best with an image though.
So what is happening is that your theme, understandably, does not know what featured image to show for a Custom Post Type. However, no doubt your theme either has documentation letting you know how to set an image for a standard WP Custom Post Type archive, or the theme author could instruct you. Unfortunately such instructions will be theme specific, so I can give them since I do not even know them.
As far as doing a countdown instead. That would be possible by turning the featured image area into a widget area. This will not be easy, and again is something your theme author would have to help with if they even offer that level of support for customizations. But, once it’s a widget area you could add the Tribe Countdown Widget. You would likely need to style it rather heavily to make it look good in that area. Once you have added the widget, you can style it by following our Themer’s Guide. But keep in mind, this entire paragraph will require a lot of CSS and some PHP knowhow, even if your theme author does provide support you will still have many blanks to fill in.
Would one of those options work? Is there anything else i can help you with? Please let me know. Cheers!

ParticipantHi Brook,
Thank you so much for your response. I agree the countdown is way too difficult. The header image is the route I would like to go. The way this theme is set up, you add the custom header image on each page. My initial understanding of the calendar was that it could be a shortcode I could drop in my theme (on a page/post) and I would be all set because I still have all my page controls. So I’m stuck. I don’t see an area to add the header image under the Event tab. Do you have any ideas? I really appreciate it!

ParticipantHowdy Nick,
I follow you. Hopefully a little explanation will help clarify my above comment. The /events/ page is an WP archive page, a standard type of page within WP. Just like /tags/ or /category/. Inside of it /events/ you will find multiple pages /events/list/, /events/month/, /events/category/. Each of those is also an archive page.
Now likely how your theme is setup is that default WP Archive pages, like /category/uncategorized/ either don’t have an image or they have a hard coded image for that archive. The trick of the matter is that your theme likely offers no GUI for swapping out images for WP custom post type archive pages. That’s understandable. If they did, you could simply go to the themes Archive Feature Images area and specify the image you wanted for any WP custom post type including “tribe_events”. Presto your header image would appear! But, even with no GUI they likely offer an easy way for to add an image. They likely have a snippet of code, or perhaps a tutorial that can help you add a feature images for WP Custom post type like events. If not, you should request that as a feature of the theme.
I can not help you there though, unfortunately. I did not write your theme so I do not know what they have available for adding an image to standard WP Custom Post Type like events.
Does that make sense? Is your theme author able to help you?
Cheers!

ParticipantHi Brook,
Thank you for taking the time to help. I found an archive page in the theme but it didn’t work. In fact this page was set to draft with an image from the demo content. I published to see if it would work but unfortunately not. Do you have any other idea of where to look? I can’t seem to figure out where this header is pulling from. Or could you help me understand what I should ask specifically from our theme creator? Thank you so much!

ParticipantI wish I could be of more direct help, but without knowing your theme’s code my hands are completely tied. That said I can tell you exactly what you should ask the theme author:
How would I add a featured/header image to WP Custom Post Type archive page?
It’s literally that simply. They will tell you how. They might even have a FAQ about it. All you will need to know is the name of the Custom Post Type, which is “tribe_events”.
I wish you the best! Let me know if there is more I can do inspite of my handicap about not knowing your theme’s code. Thanks!
