ParticipantHello,
I am would like the upcoming events to display the featured image and to display the excerpt. Is there any way of doing this?Otherwise is there a way to display all upcoming events as a grid layout with image and the excerpt or as a list with same?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Kind Regards,

ParticipantHey Aindreas,
Any of the customization ideas you suggested are indeed possible, though unfortunately you will have to build out these customizations entirely on your own since we don’t offer support for customizations here on the forums.
With that being said, I’m happy to offer as much advice as possible to hopefully get you started and save you some time.
The first thing to learn about customizing The Events Calendar and its widgets is to read through our Themer’s Guide here → https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/themers-guide/
Once you feel comfortable with those concepts, you can then indeed proceed with adding featured images and excerpts to parts of the widgets or anything else on your site.
Getting the featured image is possible with the function tribe_event_featured_image().
And getting the excerpt is possible with the function get_the_excerpt(), which you can read about in more detail here → https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/get_the_excerpt
As for altering layouts, you can do that with CSS – if you’re unfamiliar with writing CSS, it’s fortunately very easy to learn and some great sites to learn from include http://css-tricks.com and https://www.codecademy.com/tracks/web
Best of luck with your customizations!

ParticipantThank you for the info! I have tried editing the upcoming events widget, however I think that the file i am editing (copied to the child theme) is not the correct one. I have placed the file under ‘mychildtheme/tribe-events/widgets’
Could you tell me which php file is used for that widget? Currently I am editing the list-widget.php. Is this the correct one? I didnt see the specific file mentioned in link you sent me, though there was a lot of useful information.
As far as CSS goes, I am very well versed in that (I would consider that my strength) but thanks for giving me that information. My weakness would be php.
Any help would be appreciated!

ParticipantHello,
it would be helpful if there is a kind of customizing for the widget as the normal standard widget looks ugly. I changed from the all in one events calendar to the events calendar becaus of the better Facebook support, but the widget of the events calendar is far behind the ai1ec’s widget, so please have a look…
Thank you.

ParticipantHey Sebastian,
To make the list look better, rather than adding new features, would require the use of CSS. If you have an example of what it should look like and an example of what is currently on your site (the actual element working, not an image of it), I might be able to help.August 16, 2015 at 11:37 am #996483George
ParticipantHey Aindreas,
You’re correct about widgets/list-widget.php being the right file to overwrite and customize – I hope this confirmation helps a bit. Also, your contribution in this thread to address Sebastian is much appreciated! 🙂
As for your question Sebastian, we are dealing with your comments about our widget being “ugly” in your support thread here → https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/anyone-out-there-who-shares-a-widget/
Basically, the “ugly” look is because of your theme itself, not The Events Calendar.
For the sake of organization please keep the discussion of this matter in that thread, as Aindreas’ issues are quite different than yours so it’s easier to keep them separate.
Thanks!
