ParticipantI had a post a little while ago which is not resolved but is now closed
I have imported a CSV file that i have used the template from before.
It tells me that the events were all imported successfully but they are not showing.
Any idea why?
I have set the dates to yyyy-mm-dd and it still says that it imports but they are not there.

MemberGood evening Lee and welcome back!
Thank you for reaching out to us and providing your system information.
We are sorry about our over zealous bot closing your previous thread automatically.
I would love to help you with this topic.Would you mind sharing a link to your CSV file in a private reply so that I can try some tests on my end ?
As a side note, I am noticing that you are still using version 4.05 of our plugins, I would recommend updating to the latest version to enjoy some awesome new features.
Best regards,

MemberGood evening Lee,
Thank you for sharing the file.
However, it looks like I’m having a hard time accessing it. Would you mind trying that again using something like Dropbox or Google Drive ?
Best regards,
Geoff B.

MemberGood afternoon Lee,
Thank you for the CSV file.
I opened the file to gain access to its content and I believe your issue is caused by the name of the venue (
Drai’s). The reason for that is because the ‘ character is typically used as a delimiter. As you can see in the following article, that character needs to be contained in between quotation marks: http://sales.commence.com/commencekb/article.aspx?id=11147
Otherwise, it will offset the whole content of the CSV, making it unreadable upon import.
Let me know if that helps.Have a great day!

MemberGood afternoon Lee,
I agree with you, this must be frustrating and I’m sure you would have better uses for your time.
So hang in there while we get to the bottom of this.Hopefully, once we solve this new issue, you will be good to go with imports from now on.
I took a look at the Marquee files and the layout is also broken, but this time by a different character, the use of a space (which by default is also perceived as a delemiter). Once again, you can fix this by using quotation marks.
Let me know how that goes.

MemberHey Lee,
It looks like you fixed it (based on what I see in the CSV files).
Is there anything else I can help you with on this topic or are you good to go ?
Have a great day!

MemberGood morning Lee,
I am sorry the import did not work out for you.
I tried to reproduce this on my end, and I think there are couple of things that might explain what’s going on:- First of all, I am noticing a non-standard character just after “Marquee Dayclub” (I’m not sure what that is supposed to be, but I am positive it is not UTF-8.
- The other thing that might be going on is that there is a trace of previous import attempts on your website. The way this works is that the plugin is trying to prevent duplicate imports. As such, if it can match the event you are trying to import to an already existing event, the event will not be imported. To be sure, the best way would be to clean the tribe_events post types from your Database prior to the import. I would recommend a backup first before you try this manually or with the aid of a plugin such as: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-optimize/
If none of these explanations seem to fit the bill, would you mind telling me step-by-step what happens as you are trying to import the said files ?
Best regards,
Geoff B.

MemberGood evening Lee,
I totally understand where you are coming from. This must be beyond frustrating.
I really wish the circumstances were different and that you did not have to be so unlucky in the process (small glitches adding up to the current situation).
I can assure you that 99.9% of the time this is a very smooth process provided the CSV files follow the strict rules that govern them.
What doesn’t help here is how the plugin is preventing duplicates when it comes to import. In short the process is the following:
- There is a partial import attempt that does not reach completion because of delimiters issues (file format) or encoding.
- The following attempt doesn’t go through because there is already a “matching event” (even though it’s partial)
But enough about the causes of the issue, regardless of what you end up deciding, I would still like to keep my focus on helping to provide a solution as long as I am able to.
With that in mind, I too opened one of the csv files in a text editor and I am noticing a couple of things:
- First of all the encoding is not UTF-8, but Western (Mac OS Roman) which is not optimal. I’m unsure how the CSV files are generated to begin with, but you should be able to adjust the encoding prior to saving or you could convert it.
- The extra non UTF-8 character is a “cross” (Marquee Dayclub†) which, because it’s a non-standard character will not play well with any CSV import solution. I just did a quick find-replace of that character by a space and imported the Marquee10.csv file flawlessly.
So now that you have the format of the file perfectly figured out, the last piece of the puzzle will be to clean the database of the previous failed import traces. I don’t know if you are comfortable with removing them manually from the SQL database (after a backup of course), but that would certainly be the simplest approach.
Let me know and hang in there!
