Content wrapped in PRE tag

I’m trying to output some EC Pro shortcodes, but everything keeps getting wrapped in the PRE tags, and I’ve tried the twentysixteen and twentyseventeen theme, disabling ALL other plugins, and still this happens. HELP!

FWIW: at first I thought it was a licensing issue, and all of the above happened on a dev server (but without the allowed dev TLD’s so was getting the license warning), but have since tried it on production with a valid license, and still this is happening.

OK – Never mind. I’m dumb. The copy and paste I was using included a pre tag already, but the WP editor doesn’t do any styling on these…switched to text editor and voila – there were pre tags there.
