GuestHello,
I’m interested in the PRO version of the plugin for a client, but I’ve run into problems just getting the free Events Calendar working, so I’m hesitant to buy until I get a few things clarified. I’ve installed it on a number of other sites already without problems, so what I’m seeing here is odd. However, there are two (or more) things potentially at play here:1) The server is on an old Windows server. The URL given by default by the plugin is http://www.myurl.edu/required-subfolder/index.php/events/
Could the issue have something to do with the “/index.php/” in the URL? I seem to remember that Windows servers, without some rewrite module installed, had to use this in the URL. Or, is it that the “events” part of the URL is not the first directory in the URL? I also seem to remember that your plugin *has* to be in the first directory. I’m hoping that’s not the case, but I think it might be. This site does, unfortunately, live in a subfolder. If you think this is the problem, is there any workaround?2) The previous developer built the site on the Alyeska theme (http://themeforest.net/item/alyeska-responsive-wordpress-theme/164366). Do you have any known incompatibilities with this or other themes?
Thanks, Courtney

MemberHi Courtney,
Thanks for your interest!
The server is on an old Windows server.
Both The Events Calendar and Events Calendar PRO can and do run successfully on Windows servers.
Our experience has been that difficulties are perhaps more likely to arise if you are serving websites using IIS 6 (which at this point is fairly old) and, historically, there have indeed been problems where the “index.php/slug” form of URLs are used. If you are unsure which version of IIS you are using – or even if you are using IIS at all – it may be worth checking in with your web host and asking them that question (and indeed asking if it is possible to update).
This site does, unfortunately, live in a subfolder. If you think this is the problem, is there any workaround?
If WordPress is installed within a subdirectory that should not present any problems for The Events Calendar π
The previous developer built the site on the Alyeska theme (http://themeforest.net/item/alyeska-responsive-wordpress-theme/164366). Do you have any known incompatibilities with this or other themes?
I don’t know of any specific incompatibilities with that theme – but checking things out with the free, core plugin as you are doing is a great way to test things out in itself.
I hope that answers your questions – and thanks again for giving The Events Calendar a whirl π

GuestThanks for the answers.
Can you explain further about the index.php/slug issues? It should be possible at this point for us to remove the index.php part, but I wanted to find out if there is any other info or tips you have regarding this situation.Re: the subfolder, I know the Events Calendar used to have to be in the first slug of a URL. Is that no longer required? Because this whole site lives in a subfolder, so the events page would be the second slug in. So, like http://www.mywebsite.com/subfolder/events. Can you confirm this will work?
Thanks.

GuestI got rid of the extraneous “index.php/” in the URL. However, it doesn’t work. Previously I was getting a 404 error. Now I get a white page with “Directory Listing Denied. This Virtual Directory does not allow contents to be listed.” Are you sure we can have this plugin working two folders in and not in the first directory only?
