Community Events features are not included in Pro and you do not need Pro for Community Events to work. You only need the core version of the Events Calendar found for free on WordPress.org: https://wordpress.org/plugins/the-events-calendar/ Let me know if you have any follow up questions. We personally test against WordPress Codex themes, I used Genesis myself, and I have seen good work from Boxy Studios.
