ParticipantHey guys,
The other day i downloaded your calendar widget. I was so impressed that I downloaded the community add-on. I watched videos set it up and then when i went to my widgets was expecting to see it in there….Nothing. SO i went back and read every line of your website hoping to figure out how to make the community portion show up on the right hand side of my “Car Events” page and i was left without answer. Is there a video explaining this? Do you have a list of steps that i missed?this is the site: http://icravecars.com/car-events-2/
the community portion is supposed to sit where it currently says “Featured Cars”
I look forward to hearing from you!

MemberHi there, Clay! Thanks for getting in touch and for checking out the plugins. We’re glad you enjoyed The Events Calendar enough to pick up Community Events as well. 🙂
Community Events is actually not a widget, but a page on your site that includes a form where your visitors can submit events to add to your event calendar. You can find that page here on your site:Â http://icravecars.com/car-events-2/community/add
Unfortunately, the plugin does not include a widget that an be added to your site’s sidebar–that’s an interesting idea though! I’d encourage you to add that to our UserVoice page, which we monitor for new features to include in future releases. I could see how others might find that useful as well.
I’m sorry if there was any confusion the functionality of the Community Events add-on, but does this help clarify things and answer your question? Please let me know. 🙂
Cheers!

ParticipantHi Geoff, I am still having issues getting the individual categories to show up on individual pages. When i first installed the plug, it allowed me to set which pages would show individual categories. For instance, the “Leads” page is supposed to show “American, British, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Swedish, Project cars, Race Cars” under the “Leads Categories” on the right hand side. I look forward to hearing from you and getting this issue resolved.

MemberHi Clay, thanks for following up!
Quick question: what template are you using for the calendar? Head over to Events > Settings > Display and let me know what template is selected in the “Events template” dropdown setting (screenshot).
The reason I ask is because adding a sidebar will depend on which template is being used. 🙂
Cheers!

MemberAwesome, thanks Clay! This helps a lot. 🙂
The default events template does not include a sidebar by default. If you’d like to include a sidebar on calendar pages, you have a couple of options to make it happen.
1) Customize the default event template
The idea here is to add one of your site’s existing sidebars to the default event template. You do this by overriding the template:
- Make a copy of the the template. It’s located at /wp-content/plugins/the-events-calendar/views/default-template.php
- Create a new folder in your theme directory called tribe-events
- Drop the copy of the default-template.php file in the tribe-events folder you created
Once the template is in your theme folder, it can be customized to suit your needs. In this case, you can use the get_sidebar() function (more on this in the WordPress Codex) to display the specific sidebar you want in the template. Where you add that code is something that depends on your theme’s layout and I’ll leave to you to decide.
You can find more detailed information on template overrides in our Themer’s Guide.
2.) Use an existing page template
If you already have a sidebar in your theme’s default page template (typically page.php), you can change the settings (Event > Display > Settings) to use that template instead of the default event template. Using this options means the calendar will use your theme’s page.php template instead of the plugin’s default-template.php template.
I’m afraid we’re rather limited in how much support we can provide for custom development questions like this, but I’d be happy to continue pointing you in the right direction if I can. 🙂
Cheers!

ParticipantHi Geoff, Thank you for the response! But that is not actually the issue that I was talking about. The issue I am having is getting the individual categories to show up on individual pages.

MemberHi there, Clay!
Yes, we’re on the same page. 🙂
I see the categories you are referring to on other pages of your site. If I’m not mistaken, those categories are part of your theme’s sidebar. The calendar’s default event template (which you’re using) does not include a sidebar. The solution, then, is to add a sidebar by using one of the two methods outlined in my previous reply.
I hope this helps and clarifies my response a bit.
Cheers!
