Community Events Plugin: Can contributors specify Event Categories?

I am using the Community Events Plugin to have people who are not Administrators of the site submit their events.

I would like to use the Events Calendar Shortcodes to display events in a specific category on certain pages.

Is there any way for the people using Community Events to specify an Event Category?

Yes, indeed, Community Events does allow people to specify an Event Category when submitting events. The one thing to make sure of is that you already have Event Categories created in WordPress. The ones that are created will be the list of categories that are available to choose from. Here’s a screenshot of what that will look like once you have created categories:
