ParticipantHi there! We’re thinking about making the move from our custom Gravity Form to using Community Events. The only reason we have not used CE up until now is because our submitters need to be able to attach flyers (usually in PDF or MS Word format). But unfortunately, it was a custom development, and it’s no longer working (and my developer is long gone).
Right now, I can see that the CE form allows people to upload an image, which I assume maps back to the Event Post’s Featured Image.
Is there a way to allow submitters to also “attach” a document/PDF file as well? I’m not a coder, so I’m hoping there’s a simple plugin or some instructions you can provide (in detail) for what we’d have to do in order to make it work. If we could resolve this main issue, we’d love to use Community Events.
I’ve seen some forum posts asking for this feature for a while now, but until it’s provided, I’m hoping you have a suggested work around? Please let me know – thank you ! 🙂

MemberHi Jennifer,
Thanks for taking the time to reach out! While we have received a number of requests to expand the list of permitted file types for our Community Events forms, and a suggestion for this feature does already exist on our UserVoice forum, we don’t have any new updates to share regarding the development of this feature. Sadly, this type of change isn’t particularly trivial, though we do seriously consider user requests such as yours when planning new feature additions for our product releases. I’d suggest subscribing to our newsletter or following us on social media to keep up with the latest plugin releases and feature additions as they’re announced!
For now, if you’re looking for a solution that will provide this type of functionality on your site, you may find this forum post to be helpful:

I’m sorry that I couldn’t be of more assistance this time around, but I hope the link above might help to get you on your way here! Thanks again, and let me know if there’s anything else that I can do to assist! 🙂

ParticipantFunny, the link you referred me to is a post from me asking this same question more than a year ago. At that time, we took the suggestion and hired someone to work with Gravity Forms and custom map the submissions. It worked great up until a couple of weeks ago. I don’t know if it was a Tribe update or a GF update (or both), but it stopped working. And the guy who developed it for us is long gone unfortunately.
As a non-profit with limited resources, we can’t afford to pay someone new to come in and figure this out for us over and over again. Which is why we’d rather use your CE plugin – that way everything is developed from the same vendor.
But not having the ability to attach a PDF or other file format is a huge annoyance to our users.
I’m actually not asking that you expand the existing list of file types for that question – because that question maps back to WP’s featured image. So it really has to be an image file.
What I’m looking for is the ability for people submitting their community events to be able to attach downloadable documents, like PDFs, Word, Excel files. So on the front end, when visitors view the posted event, they can see a featured image, description and a link(s) to download a file(s) – e.g., and event flyer that someone might want to print off and take with them, etc.
I don’t know if that clarification make the process for adding this feature easier or not. Seems like if we require that someone log in to access that ability to post through community events, that there’d be something you could do WordPress’s “Add Media” feature that doesn’t require the submitter to host the document off-site. Maybe it uploads it to a distinct directory in the WordPress back end that Admins can monitor and manage.
Does any of this make sense?

MemberHi Jennifer,
That makes complete sense 🙂
However, the amount of support we can provide for custom development tasks such as this one does tend to be limited and there are quite a few angles to get right here.
I do realize your organization is on a limited budget but, as Caroline noted, a suggestion has already been filed and we do take these things seriously when considering future features, knowledgebase articles and extensions. With that in mind, please do feel free to up-vote it if you haven’t already done so:

Sorry we can’t do more on this occasion and, if you do find you’re able to engage a developer for this, you may also find the following list useful:

Thanks again and good luck with the project 🙂

KeymasterHey there! This thread has been pretty quiet for the last three weeks, so we’re going to go ahead and close it to avoid confusion with other topics. If you’re still looking for help with this, please do open a new thread, reference this one and we’d be more than happy to continue the conversation over there.
Thanks so much!
