    Hello

We are starting to see quite a lot of duplicate venues and organisers in our database. This is because when people fill in the community events form to create an event, and start typing in a venue or organiser, it shows the name below if it has been used before, but if they hit the Enter key before highlighting the name, it creates a whole new record. So we end up with 3 of 4 of the same venue or organiser, even within one session if they are entering in more than one event.

Would it be possible to submit a request for an update to this feature? For example, in the time tracking software I use, https://toggl.com, if I want to create a new client, I need to scroll past all the existing client listings and press the “+” symbol. It makes me look at all the ones that are already there first, and potentially select one, before making a very definite action to ‘create new’. Could something similar be implemented on the Community Events form, so that customers don’t accidentally create so many duplicate venues and organisers?

Secondly, when someone selects ‘Australia’ in the list of countries for their address, the list of states does not change. Our customers continue to see the list of American states. So we are finding that they are typing in their Australian state and creating multiple versions eg, VIC, Victoria etc, which makes it difficult for us to create listings pages if there are different spellings. Would it be possible to have conditional logic set up on the form, so that when someone selects Australia as the county, Australian states and territories display in the dropdown?

Third question, is there a way to add a ‘Book Now’ or ‘Buy Tickets’ CTA to search results listings? ie, when you type in a query in the free search field at the top of the page and the list of concerts comes up. Is there a way to have a Book Now or Buy Tickets button next to each event there on the Event Listings Archive template to encourage people to click through to the page for more info?

Thank you for your help 🙂

    Hi Kate,

Thanks so much for reaching out!

We are starting to see quite a lot of duplicate venues and organisers in our database.

You have a few default options to explore, if you are interested:

    • In Events Settings < Community, you can have users only select from existing organizers/venues, which will prevent them from adding anything new
    • Under Events Settings < General, you can Merge Duplicates for organizers and venues

Also, please feel free to vote on this idea or add a new idea to our feature requests, as we take our customer feedback into account when implementing new features:

    https://tribe.uservoice.com/forums/195723-feature-ideas/suggestions/12425451-community-events-duplicate-events

Secondly, when someone selects ‘Australia’ in the list of countries for their address, the list of states does not change

Would you mind elaborating on where you are seeing this/what plugin you are using?  I’d love to get a better picture about what you are referring to, so that I can help you better!

Is there a way to have a Book Now or Buy Tickets button next to each event there on the Event Listings Archive template to encourage people to click through to the page for more info?

Are you referring to when customers view your full calendar in List View?  If so, you can change the wording where it says “Find out more >>” under each event to say something like “Book Now” or “Buy Tickets”.  You can do that using this tutorial:

    https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/change-the-wording-of-any-bit-of-text-or-string/

From there, you can style it to look like a button using some CSS.

I hope all of this info helps!  Let me know if you have any other questions!

    Thanks,

    Jaime

Hey there! This thread has been pretty quiet for the last three weeks, so we’re going to go ahead and close it to avoid confusion with other topics. If you’re still looking for help with this, please do open a new thread, reference this one and we’d be more than happy to continue the conversation over there.

    Thanks so much!
