Choosing a WordPress theme that’s compatible with The Events Calendar

We attempted to install The Event Calendar on our website and couldn’t get it to work. We determined that it wasn’t our plugins that were incompatible with TEC, it was our theme, which is iThemes Builder. We are an online magazine and changing themes is no small matter. But it was on our to-do list anyway, because our current theme isn’t responsive, so we’re just having to accelerate the process.

My question is: What do we avoid? Builder themes in general?

What should we look for? How do we narrow the scope of our search to themes that TEC will work with? Any hep in sorting through the thousands and thousands of themes that are currently available would be MUCH appreciated.

We ensure compatibility with WordPress default themes like Twenty Sixteen, Twenty Seventeen, etc. Other than that, we typically state that our stuff works with any theme that follows WP’s best practices. There are also other themes that either state they’re compatible (their claim, not ours) and some even have specific integrations and custom views for our plugin’s pages. You can find some of these at ThemeForest.net.
