Changing the word ‘events’ to something else – follow up question

I followed the directions as found under “Changing the word ‘events’ to something else” and all worked very well. This morning, it is back to “Events” everywhere?? Is this something that I will need to change every time there is an update to WordPress? It’s fine, I just want to know because I will be aware of it.

Thanks for using our plugins.

I can help out here. Where did you place the coding?

If it is in a plugin or theme and either is updated it will overwrite the changes.

It should be added through a child theme or custom plugin to prevent updates from erasing the changes.

I placed it in the functions.php file as instructed in the online post. It was simple enough to update it again, as I had saved the customization I had made to the code. I am a beginner in this whole website world, so if I follow directions exactly, I can usually do just about anything, plus, I did not design our website, so I have had a very difficult time deciphering the structure.
We do have a web developer who works on some of our more intricate things occasionally. For the time being, I know where to make the change. When my budget allows, I will send the code and your instructions to him. It will probably take him 5 minutes to do. But, I think don’t have any understanding of where you are telling me to place the code.
As long as I know that will happen from time to time, it seems fairly simple to just pop the code back into the function.php.
