Changing custom post type slugs to Spanish without altering the plugin directly

I would like to change “venues” to “lugares” and “events” to “eventos” without directly altering the plugin core files. Is there something I can hook into to do this?

I edited wp-config with the following:
define(‘WPLANG’, ‘se_SE’);

While Venues *does* change to “lugares, the permalink for events remains “events” while it should be *”eventos”*

A note to others– make sure you update permalinks after updating the WPLANG line in wp-config
