ParticipantHi,
Tried to find a way to change the term ‘Location’ in all parts of the Plugin into ‘Theater’, did find a way to do it in the Knowledge base, https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/change-the-wording-of-any-bit-of-text-or-string/, but this won’t work if the website has a different language. In my example I want to change ‘Locatie’ (which is Dutch for Location) into Theater (yes, you guessed it…). But if I try to use your method, it won’t work.
Can I change this just by changing the language files (.mo .po)? Or is that too complicated?

MemberHey Marcel!
Good question. Updating the language files is a totally legit way to go. An easier alternative might be to check out the Say What? plugin so you don’t have to touch the files.
Will that work for you? Please let me know. 🙂
Cheers!

ParticipantNo, I don’t want to use another Plugin to get things straight. The more plugins, the more trouble, especially when WP has another version installed.
I thought this page on your knowledge base was really helpful, but it didn’t work out as I use a different language. But I can’t believe that just changing all language files will help me.
And I don’t want to take any risks as I don’t know if I have to follow the instructions on that page AND change all language files (in about three different locations).
The result of this will be that I have to change all different files over and over every time you guys update the plugin (and the pro version). I’m not only talking about this issue, but there are more. Please check my other tickets.

MemberHi Marcel,
Thanks for following up!
Does the snippet from the tutorial work if you start with the untranslated string rather than the translated one? So, for example, if you were translating “Venue” you would continue to use “Venue” as the starting point for the snippet as opposed to the translated version. Does that work?
If that does not work then, from what I understand, you have a few options:
- Update the translation files
- Manage translations in the Say What plugin
- Write a new function that handles the translation
I know you are opposed to the idea of using another plugin like Say What, but I really do think it is worth a try. It essentially does what the snippet in the tutorial does and what updating a language file does while keeping those updates isolated from your other theme functions and language files in order to prevent conflicts are overwriting changes when the theme and plugins are updated.
Cheers,
