Change the output date format of "_EventStartDate"

We need to change the Date format of the custom field “_EventStartDate” in order to use it for output in frontend and filter queries.

The format is “YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS”. We need it in the WordPress Date format like this “l, d. m. Y”.
Is there a way to rewrite the format? Some custom function and/or custom shortcode?

We will gladly try to assist you on this topic.

As a first step, I would recommend reading my colleague Geoff’s great post on a related topic.

To make a long story short, I would really advise against trying to modify the date format within the plugin itself. This is likely to cause some pretty serious issues.

But, as the post suggests, you can absolutely customize things, including the format of certain values in a very specific context (leaving other views and context untouched) using the instructions contained in our Themer’s guide.
