GuestI know a majority of your users are using this plugin for classes. My client has a unique request.
She would like the ability for the plugin to send out a PDF certificate for all checked-in attendees that would get emailed at a specified date (for example, the day after or a week after).
The PDF should contain elements already captured by the event posting.
Event Title
Event Date
Attendee NameAnd other obvious things like a logo, company name, area for custom information etc..
I understand you probably might not have something like this currently. So I guess what I’m really asking is for a quote for a customization extension on this plugin for that functionality. I would assume a lot of individuals would like that too.

GuestI should clarify, these are Certificate of Completion of the class taken.

MemberHi Heather,
Great question (and thanks for considering our plugins)!
You’re correct that this would need to be implemented as a further piece of customization work. I’m afraid to say I cannot provide you with a quote or estimate, however, as at this time we do not generally take on customization tasks like the one you have outlined.
That said, there are lots of great WordPress devs and designers out there who might be able to help – perhaps you could try and seek one out via a freelance marketplace or some other channel?
The Events Calendar, Events Calendar PRO and our other plugins are pretty popular so if you specify that you need someone experienced in these I’d imagine there would be any number of takers 🙂
I hope that helps – and good luck with the project!

GuestMy fear is that someone would customize the plugin, but it would get overwritten with updates. Which I don’t want at all. Is it possible to have child themes of plugins the same way we have child themes for themes?

MemberHi!
It’s readily possible to customize The Events Calendar – and, for that matter, all of our event-related plugins – through template overrides.
There are also a huge number of action and filter hooks – so you can also change how the plugin behaves (and not just how it displays) safely and without actually modifying any core plugin code.
From a theming perspective, our Themer’s Guide will give you an idea of how this pieces together.
Does that help at all? Basically, when done the right way and in line with common WordPress best practices, there is no need whatsoever to change plugin code when customizing 🙂
