I’ve got a weird conflict with X Theme… the title of the first event doesn’t appear… it just outputs an empty tag.
I figure it’s the X Theme because I tried it with the Twenty Sixteen theme and it works.

Theme customizations are unfortunately outside the scope we’re able to provide via the support forums. I recommend reading through our Themer’s Guide as it sounds like you have a theme conflict going on.
Another idea I have would be to open “Inspect” by right-clicking on your mouse while visiting the page you’re experiencing issues on. You can see any conflicts that may be interrupting the first event title from being displayed.

thanks for your reply. I have to admit I’m a bit disappointed by your response, as both The Events Calendar and X Theme are very, very popular in their respective categories and I had hoped you’d be more interested in seeing them work together smoothly.
I have inspected the element, before contacting you, using Firebug, and what I see in the HTML is that the A tag within the H2 for the title is empty… which makes me think that whatever conflict is happening is going on in PHP on the server.
Please reconsider looking into this.

I completely understand where you’re coming from, but again, with the sheer amount of themes available, there is just no feasible way for us to guarantee compatibility with all of the right out-of-the-box. We test our plugins thoroughly using the default WP theme before release.
One option I recommend would be to contact your theme author and explore their support forums (if available). I really do wish there was more I could assist with and best of luck addressing the issue. Have a good one!
