    Hello all,
Just purchased the Facebook Plug-In, in order to automatically import events from our local

    Buddhist temple Facebook site.
    The URL, on Facebook, is…

    https://www.facebook.com/pages/Vista-Buddhist-Temple/198114490206864
I’ve tried using just the number (198114490206864), or the name (Vista-Buddhist-Temple), but always get an error during the import. The error reads…
“Facebook API Error: Unsupported get request. Please read the Graph API documentation at https://developers.facebook.com/docs/graph-api”.
Any suggestions on where I am going wrong?

    Hello,

    Thanks for purchasing Facebook Events.

Sorry for the issues you are having. I can help troubleshoot this with you.

So the Unsupported Get Request is a message from Facebook when an Event or Page is is Age or Country Restriction or an Event is marked as Private.

Can you go into the Facebook Page and check the Restrictions in the settings and see if you can remove them.

Let me know and I can try to help out some more.

    Thanks

Okay, thanks, the page did have a restriction of “United States, Canada and Japan” on it. Removing that restriction now allows the plug-in to work.

A new problem has arisen now. Seems like it’s importing events 1 day off. Is there a timezone setting or something? For instance, I create a pair of all day events, July 25th and July 26th. The plug-in imported them to be on July 24th and July 25th.

Ok glad one issue is fixed.

What are you TimeZone Settings in WordPress?

Go to your WordPress Admin then Settings > General

What is the Zone setting set there?

Also, are there TimeZone settings for the Events or Pages in Facebook?

Let me know and we can go from there to troubleshoot this.

    Thanks

    Hey Brian,

Okay, looked around for timezone related issues, but didn’t find anything. WordPress shows me in PST (Los Angeles), and Facebook Events are showing PST as well.

I did post an event, for 12/14/2014, using 3 different time specifiers. That is…

    1. Specified day, no start or end time
    2. Specified day, start time, no end time
    3. Specified day, start time and end time

Of the 3 tests, the Calendar Event import screen in WP showed that the first one “moved” to the previous day…

12/13/2014 — Bodhi Day Service (No Time Specified) (link)
12/14/2014 — Bodhi Day Service (No END Time Specified) (link)
12/14/2014 — Bodhi Day Service (Facebook Post) (link)

So, it seems like the Calendar plug-in wants to show things one day earlier if no start/end time is specified.

I’m running version 3.9 of your plug-ins. This feels like a bug in the time-calculation code you likely use for conversion, import, etc, but tell me if I should be looking elsewhere.

I think you have found a bug for events without times. I am seeing the same issue on my site and verifying with the team right now. I will update you when we have more.

    Thanks

I just wanted to update you on this. I do not have a patch for it, but it is indeed a bug and I have create a bug report for it.

We will update this ticket once we have a solution. I am pushing to get it in our maintenance release, but I am not sure about that right now.

Let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks

    Thanks Brian.
Since this issue doesn’t seem to be an “edge case”, it would be nice to see it given some priority for fixing. All-day events are relatively common for us.
    Thanks,
    Roy

Agreed I pushed for it and we are working to release in the maintenance release we started on today. Those typically take 1 to 2 weeks.

Let me know if you have any other questions. Otherwise I am going to close this ticket as there is nothing more we can do on it right now.

However, we will update this ticket on the day we release the update to notify you.

    Thanks

    Hey Brian,

With 2014 drawing to a close, and 2 weeks having elapsed, I’m anxious for this bug to get fixed. I know you had your hands full with, amongst other things, migrating The Events Calendar to a stand-alone website.

Any revised ETA on when this will be fixed? There are often events I am posting to my calendar, without confirmed start/end times, and when I do I keep running into this issue.

Hi sorry for the delay with the Holidays it is a little hard to get information.

I am not sure when the release of a bug fix will be for this.

I am hoping to get a response tomorrow about it.

    Thanks

Hey again Roy! Rob from Modern Tribe here – I head up the support team, and wanted to thank you for the feedback here and for being vocal about this issue. Though it looks like Brian has already been able to provide a workaround that should help get you on the right path, after some internal discussion we realized that this is a more severe issue than we’d initially thought…and as a result are prioritizing it for the maintenance release we hope to ship this coming week, rather than waiting for the broader 3.10 release we’ve got planned for March. Thanks for your help in pushing it forward there.

We did close down for the holidays, which we clearly failed to properly communicate to you based on your 12/29 note (which came right in the middle of our planned downtime). But now that things are back to regular capacity as of this morning, we’re working to QA the tickets for this small maintenance release so we can get it out the door ASAP. We really appreciate your patience so far!

    Thanks for the update.

I’m a PHP programmer by trade, so I will go ahead and implement the code changes you sent me previously. I really appreciate the explanation as to the delay. I think people should be allowed time away from work for the holidays.

And, yes, it seemed like it could be a common use of the calendar plug-in, not including a start/end time, so not surprised others are feeling the impact.

Congratulations on moving the Calendar to its own, standalone site, assuming it’s now popular enough to get individual treatment and attention.

    Hi Roy

    Thanks for the message.

I am going to close out this ticket for now, but will update this ticket when we release the fix, which is coming by the latest early next week.

If you run into problems or another issue comes up please just create a new ticket and reference this one.

    Thanks
