Can't advance to next month, week, etc. since 3.5 update

Since updating to 3.5, I can’t advance to the next or previous month (week, day, etc.). The spinner just keeps spinning (2+ minutes).
Because I neglected to whitelist my IP address in iThemes Security, I was locked out of my site “due to too many attempts to access a file that does not exist.” I’m including this embarrassing detail in case it sheds any light on the situation.

Why?
