ParticipantDear Event Calendar people,
I have been looking through older threads about this issue but haven’t found a solution yet. The issue is regarding double content when creating recurring event (which ofcourse Google is not happy with). I can see that Yoast SEO gives every recurrence it’s own canonical URL which isn’t very good. If I try and create a master canonical URL like fx http://sitename.dk/event/event-name/all/ then the recurrences canonical URL’s still don’t change.I would like to avoid having to break every event out of the series, so what is the current best alternative solution to doing that?

MemberGood evening Steffen and welcome back!
Thank you for reaching out to us.
We are sorry to hear about the issues you have been dealing with between recurring events and Yoast.
I would love to try to help you with this topic. To be transparent with you, there is currently an exercise being performed to provide solutions to some of the concerns and issues between our plugins and Yoast as reported by our wonderful customers.
I would like to submit this very question to the people in charge of that investigation and see what they say.
What I can tell you however is that it is possible to override some of Yoast’s behaviours by adding a code snippet in your functions.php such as in the following example:

Let me get back to you on this one.
Have a great day!

MemberHello again Steffen,
Just a quick follow up to let you know that I did talk to the team in charge of that project today.
They will craft a snippet to accomplish what you are looking for, so stay tuned!
Best regards,
Geoff B.

ParticipantHi Geoff,
Many thanks for the above snippet, and I’m very excited to hear about the upcoming solution. I know this is a difficult question to answer but do you have an ETA for the snippet? We are looking at site launch within the next month.

MemberHey Steffen,
This is a great question. Since I am not the one doing the coding it’s slightly out of my control.
So, I cannot commit to a release date at this point. But stay tuned I’m following up on this for you.
Have a good week-end,
Geoff B.

ParticipantHowdy Steffen,
Sorry for the delay, we’ve been a bit swamped. I am the gent doing the coding on this snippet and I just through the finishing touches on it.
https://gist.github.com/elimn/ae3e234aecf46753618b
If you paste that at the top of your theme’s functions.php file, underneath the first line “<?php”, it will automatically adjust the canonical link for recurring events pointing them to the /all/ page. It will do this even without Yoast activated.
Does that work for you? Thanks again for the suggestion, adjusting this link is a great idea in our book.
Edit: For some reason the link to my snippet isn’t working right. If you go to: gist [dot] github [dot] com/elimn/ae3e234aecf46753618b in your browser that should show you the snippet.
