I have so many problems I don’t know where to start. The problem that I have is so strange, when I use the default permalinks the community add works fine but then the events stop working. When I change the permalinks the events start working but then the community add link stops working.

I don’t know what to do, I have spent days trying to fix this, I’ve disabled every plugin I have changed themes several times. I have manually updated WordPress and all Events Calendar and all the plugins.

    Hey @CHARLES,

I’m really sorry to hear about all these problems on your site – hopefully we can at least figure out what’s causing everything here.

For starters, you mention having done this on your site:

I’ve disabled every plugin I have changed themes several times.

    1. If possible, can you please put your site back in that state, where The Events Calendar and Community Events are the only active plugins on your site, and your site’s active theme is a default one like Twenty Twelve?

    2. Did this problem occur in previous versions? Or did it only appear after updating to the most recent 3.12.x versions of The Events Calendar and Community Events?

    3. Once your site is in the state described in Step 1 above, can you to your site’s wp-config.php file and change this line of code:

    define('WP_DEBUG', false);

    to this:

    define('WP_DEBUG', true);

    4. Finally, once your site is in the state described in Step 1, and you’ve made the wp-config.php change in step 3, can you then make sure your site’s permalinks are using “Pretty Permalinks” like /%postname%/ or something similar, and then head to your /events/ page and your Community Submission page? See if any PHP errors pop up while doing so, and paste them here if so…

These steps will give us a really solid base for further troubleshooting here, and may reveal some very useful information. Let us know what you find!

    Thank you,
    George

I have completed everything you asked me to do.

Notice: register_sidebar was called incorrectly. No id was set in the arguments array for the “Layout Builder Widget Area 1” sidebar. Defaulting to “sidebar-3”. Manually set the id to “sidebar-3” to silence this notice and keep existing sidebar content. Please see Debugging in WordPress for more information. (This message was added in version 4.2.0.) in /blog/wp-includes/functions.php on line 3622

Notice: register_sidebar was called incorrectly. No id was set in the arguments array for the “Layout Builder Widget Area 2” sidebar. Defaulting to “sidebar-4”. Manually set the id to “sidebar-4” to silence this notice and keep existing sidebar content. Please see Debugging in WordPress for more information. (This message was added in version 4.2.0.) in /blog/wp-includes/functions.php on line 3622

Notice: register_sidebar was called incorrectly. No id was set in the arguments array for the “Layout Builder Widget Area 3” sidebar. Defaulting to “sidebar-5”. Manually set the id to “sidebar-5” to silence this notice and keep existing sidebar content. Please see Debugging in WordPress for more information. (This message was added in version 4.2.0.) in /blog/wp-includes/functions.php on line 3622

Notice: register_sidebar was called incorrectly. No id was set in the arguments array for the “Layout Builder Widget Area 4” sidebar. Defaulting to “sidebar-6”. Manually set the id to “sidebar-6” to silence this notice and keep existing sidebar content. Please see Debugging in WordPress for more information. Notice: register_sidebar was called incorrectly. No id was set in the arguments array for the “Layout Builder Widget Area 5” sidebar. Defaulting to “sidebar-7”. Manually set the id to “sidebar-7” to silence this notice and keep existing sidebar content. Please see Debugging in WordPress for more information. Thank you, @CHARLES!

These notices are fortunately not causing any of these problems, so you can turn WP_DEBUG back to “False” if you’d like.

I checked out your site and the 404 page persists. Can you clarify these details:

    1. Did this problem occur in previous versions? Or did it only appear after updating to the most recent 3.12.x versions of The Events Calendar and Community Events?

    2. What are your site’s Permalinks settings now? e.g. are they /%postname%/ ?

    3. Did you perform the “Save Permalinks” test I mentioned in my earlier reply? If so, did it make any difference?

    4. Who is your web host provider? I ask because your 404 page is not a WordPress page, but a server-generated one it seems…so this might indicate that the problem is something your server itself, and/or with your .htaccess file specifically. I would recommend contacting your webhost for support regarding this issue, and seeing what their input is.

Let us know what they say! And thank you for your patience here – just by ruling out some possible culprits like we have done, we’ve advanced the troubleshooting quite a bit and hopefully will have this resolved soon!

    Sincerely,
    George

Answer: This problem did not exist prior to recent WP updates and Events Calendar updates

    2. What are your site’s Permalinks settings now? e.g. are they /%postname%/ ?
Answer: yes, my site’s permalins are now set to that.

    3. Did you perform the “Save Permalinks” test I mentioned in my earlier reply? If so, did it make any difference?
Answer: yes I did, not it did not make a difference.

I just put everything back to how it should be in production, if you look now you will see that you can click on the add a new event and it takes you to the account page like it should.

But if you click on the list view then click on one of the events it just hangs up.

Thanks for the update and for this information Charles, much appreciated! Did you happen to contact Yahoo Small Business’ support team for help with this? If so, what did they say, if anything?

I don’t reproduce your issues and there’s nothing on the WordPress side of things that sounds problematic with your site setup…so with these things in mind plus the fact that the 404 pages being served up are server-style ones and not WordPress 404 templates, I suspect there is a server or .htaccess related issue here which Yahoo Small Business’ support team should be able to offer some insight on.

Let us know if you reach out to them!

    Thank you,
    George
