Sarah
ParticipantHello,
I am having difficulty importing events through the ICal Importer. I have tried several approaches and cannot get it to import. First, I tried importing off the icalendar address.
webcal://p04-calendarws.icloud.com/ca/subscribe/1/xNhVFLAmASbQB0g7srMCzDiKs9Vt9ciEuzzfrFcG_KVafdlXWXQl4JkPLhklpsaVThen I tried importing that feed into Google Calendar, and then importing that feed:
https://calendar.google.com/calendar/ical/ors809s401d7r1qg8oriu7v3r37t8tf1%40import.calendar.google.com/public/basic.icsThen I tried importing into Outlook with the same results. I am really needing some technical help with this. One of the error messages I have received is this:
The server responded with a malformed response. Please see the JS console for more information. Please let me know what I can do to have a successful import.
Thanks!

ParticipantHowdy Sarah,
I am sorry this has been frustrating. I would love to help you with this.
Thanks for sharing what all you have tested thus far. I have an idea how we might be able to import in spite of the error, and it will help us learn more about this problem. Can you try uploading the file right to your website? To do this, go to the iCal importer. On the importer there is a drop down called “Source”, click on this and change it to .ics file. Then select the file on your computer. Not hit search. Do you still get an error or can you successfully import?
Cheers!

ParticipantThank you Brook for your response. O.k. so I tried to upload the .ics file and import – this is the error I’m getting:

ParticipantInteresting. Thanks for giving that a whirl. Would it be possible for you to generate a username/password I could use to login to your site. If you respond here with the details and check the box “Set as private reply” only Modern Tribe reps will be able to read your response.
With your permission, I would like to try importing that file to your site as well and seeing the error in action. Would that all be okay?

ParticipantThank you Sarah! That was very helpful.
I believe your server is timing our on import. It is quite possible your server logs have more detailed information.
The next step would be to contact your website host. Ask them if there is a timeout limit. If they aren’t forthcoming about this limit, ask how you can modify the php.ini settings. Often in the php.ini there a setting called “max_execution_time”. It seems likely that this is set to 30 on your server. In order to import such a large .ics file it will need to be much larger. You might even set it to 300 if your host allows. Then try the import.
If that option does not work, you might export the .ics file from Google calendar in smaller increments. Sometimes people categorize their events and export a category at a time. Or a different more powerful webhost that would be capable of mass imports. First step though would be to contact the current one, typically they allow you to adjust the timeout settings.
Does that all make sense? Will that work for you? Please let me know.
Cheers!
