    We are using the community events plugin and are having problems with our “community” not changing the start date when submitting their event.

    Is it possible to have no default start date, so that they’d HAVE to enter a date (since it would certainly be required)?

    To get you started, you can try altering the code in this Knowledgebase article, which sets required fields for submissions:

    Also, here is our Themer’s Guide.  You can try to copy and edit the template files related to the Community Events form, like community/modules/datepickers.php :

    I wasnt able to make this work, but thanks for the pointers.

    We’ve added a message on the form via the tribe_events_community_before_the_datepickers action.

    I may come back to it at another time.
