Participantthis is probably a WP thing more an Events Calendar thing – but it’s driving me crazy. is there ANY way to have the function where selecting the parent category automatically selects it’s subcategories? When I select only the category, the listing shows ONLY the category name that i selected and not the sub categories. Events calendar organizes the the sub-categories into a drop-down menu and it’s easy for users to select the category as a whole instead of opening it and then selecting the sub categories.
Alternatively, if that’s not possible, is there a way to make the category not selectable so the user has to select the sub categories.

MemberHey @Kevin,
Ooo, interesting question!
I did some digging around and it does appear that this is a WordPress-related constraint at the moment. In other words, Community Events extends the Event Categories meta box from The Events Calendar, which extends those taxonomies from WordPress.
It could be possible to create such behavior, perhaps with jQuery or some other custom development. However, I’m afraid I don’t have a good solution for you right out of the box. While it hasn’t been updated in quite some time, I wonder if this plugin or something like it would help.
Cheers,

ParticipantThanks for the quick response. i tried that plugin and have no idea where any of the feature are. no info on the plugin site either. i’ll dig around for a similar plugin to try. thanks for pointing me in that direction. If I find something that works i’ll post it here for anyone who might have a similar need.

MemberI appreciate that, @Kevin! Sorry again for not having a better solution, but I’ll definitely leave this thread open a while longer in case you come across something and would like to share it with the community — which is awesome of you to offer, by the way. 🙂
Cheers!
