Hello,
We need to create a calendar where the calendar data is pulled from an external API data source (i.e. events not managed in WordPress). We also need to be able to filter the calendar using categories (also data variables in the API).
In this scenario, can we use The Events Calendar to display the event listings we receive from the API – can this be done with either the free or PRO version, or would it require a custom solution.
Any guidance you may be able to provide would be much appreciated. Thank you.
Hey there–excellent question!
I honestly haven’t seen an example of The Events Calendar being used with an external API to deliver events. We are looking at ways to sync events with something like Gmail, but nothing quite yet. I believe that would be quite a custom undertaking.
I do wonder, though, how something like this could work using the WordPress REST API–considering that the external source you’re using would be WordPress as well, or if you would be feeding events from The Events Calendar to another source. Interesting possibilities for sure!
