I’ve recently upgraded to 3.0.1 and am seeing that the load time of any page with the Calendar widget is extremely high. I’ve tried removing other widgets and deactivating other plugins but nothing seems to help. Any help would be appreciated.
Do you have a lot of events on your site? What web host are you with? I haven’t heard of anybody else having issues with this and I know we made a bunch of query optimizations with this release so I’m not sure what the problem could be. Do you have any caching plugins installed for your site? That may help…
Hi Jonah,
Thanks for the reply. I don’t have any caching plugins installed. I have a few hundred events though. I’m not sure whether this would be considered a lot? I have the widget set to only show 5 though.
Any page which has the widget installed takes 8+ seconds to load, although removing the widget cuts it down to just a couple seconds.
I host with GoDaddy (I know what you’re going to say, lol…) but haven’t had this problem in the past with the calendar widget performance.
Unfortunately there’s not a whole lot we can do about performance. Performance can change on a shared hosting environment on any given day or any time of the day. I would highly suggest moving to a faster hosting platform if you need more speed. The only things you can do are try installing a caching plugin and/or work on optimizations throughout your website. It doesn’t sound like you have too many events or anything like that… If you had many thousands then it might be a problem…
