    Hi there,

I want to be able to free courses (limited places) to the general public. These course will be free but we need to be able to collect certain details about the delegates and issue them with a ticket via email. We also want to be able to report on the delegate information that they provide. We don’t however want them to have to go through a checkout process of having to enter their address etc.

Could you please recommend which plugins I should purchase to achieve this. I understand that some customisation will most likely be required but I’d like to keep this to a minimum.

    Any help appreciated.

    Many thanks,
    Phil

    Hey Phil,

Thanks for reaching out to us. Any of our ticketing add-ons do indeed work well with free tickets, but even with free tickets there is a “checkout” process involved. You mention not wanting to make users go through this to enter their email and such, but you also mentioned wanting to collect data from/about them and be able to collect their email addresses for communication and such.

So, are their emails the only data you’re trying to collect? If so, then something that might work really well for you is something that isn’t even an official product of ours altogether – it’s called “Event Rocket”, and it has a basic minimal “RSVP”-style feature that might work quite well for your needs.

Now, this is not a plugin that you can get support for, since it’s totally free and open-source. It’s also not something we support or officially make ourselves, though it’s created and maintained by one of our awesome developers Barry. He’s Scottish and good at writing at code 🙂

Check out Event Rocket here → https://wordpress.org/plugins/event-rocket/

I’d recommend playing around with that and seeing how it works for you – that would be a great reference point to build off of here, e.g. if you need more features than it I’ll have a better sense of what you need and can help out with more alternatives and such.

Let us know what you think!

Thanks for getting back so quickly and the detailed response. I’ve checked out the plugin that you mentioned and will certainly experiment with that. Does it have the ability to send out tickets via email?

If that doesn’t quite work for me then I’ll look at the Woocommerce Tickets plugin, as I will need to collect more information than just the user’s email address, but I don’t want address details etc. Really I need some sort of custom form.

    Thanks again. Fantastic support.

Ooo… lastly FYI I never received your reply in an email, only by returning to the forum.

    Thanks,
    Phil

    Thanks for the update Phil!

Does it have the ability to send out tickets via email?

Event Rocket doesn’t do that, unfortunately. It is not a whole ticketing system or anything, just an extension of The Events Calendar with some extra features and functionality.

Really I need some sort of custom form.

If you can’t make WooCommerce Tickets work for you, then a) be sure to ask for a refund from us so you don’t waste that money, and b) using a custom form may then indeed be the best remaining option. We don’t make anything like that, but plugins like Ninja Forms and Gravity Forms are the best form solutions out there for WordPress, with add-ons of their own, so you could probably concoct something useful with those plugins.

FYI I never received your reply in an email, only by returning to the forum.

Sorry to hear that! It’s a weird issue that seems to affect people intermittently, and randomly. We’ve got some forum-related fixes coming soon, mostly back-end fixes, but those might help prevent this drop in emails. Sorry about that Phil!

    Thank you,
    George
