    Hi,

    There are some terribly translated sentences in Dutch in the front end in Events Calendar.
    1) Are there any corrections planned soon?
    2) Is it possible to customize/change these errors so they do not longer appear in the front end? Also, it would be nice to customise them anyway.

    Our translations are entirely community-driven, especially for languages like Dutch which, at this time, nobody on our team speaks 🙁

    This can sometimes lead to out-of-date or inconsistent translations. If you are interested in fixing these, our whole translations system is open to the public at http://translations.theeventscalendar.com, where you can make an account and submit edits that, once approved, will become a part of the official plugin translation.

    When it comes to editing the translation errors directly, on your own site, yes, you can open up the plugin code and find the strings you would like to edit, and then edit the strings. The language files are located in the /lang folder in the plugins.

    Please note that making edits to core plugin files like this will mean that these edits are over-written when you next update the plugin. So if you make edits this way, be sure to back up your edits so you don’t lose them in a plugin update!

    @George, as one of the Dutch validators this message obviously caused some cringing on my part. I’ll try to look at the wrongly translated strings and fix them where possible. I’ve suggested that Bart should check on having the latest mo/po files, since I have been making quite a lot of changes in the past months and not all TEC-updates include the latest mo/po files 🙂

    Ik ben een van de validators van de Nederlandse vertalingen die via de links hierboven beschikbaar zijn. Ik heb helaas geen tijd om alles tot in de puntjes door te nemen – ik doe het er ook maar naast in de vrije tijd 😉

    Kan je aangeven (wellicht met screenshots) welke gedeeltes slecht vertaald zijn?
    Ik heb overigens het idee dat ze niet altijd de laatste mo/po bestanden meenemen in elke nieuwe release. Je doet er dus verstandig aan om eerst te checken of wat je hebt inderdaad de laatste versie is! Download de mo/po bestanden op de twee verschillende glotpress-pagina’s voor de CORE en de PRO plugin en plaats die in de juiste mapjes op je FTP server. Laat daarna nog eens weten of het nog steeds zo slecht is als je nu ziet!

    Het lastige aan vertalen via de glotpress-omgevingen is, dat je het niet in real-time kan zien in de uiteindelijke omgeving. Je kan elk stukje wel opzoeken in de sourcecode, maar dan zie je het nog niet live voor je zeg maar.

    Ik wil graag met je kijken of we dit probleem de wereld uit kunnen helpen 🙂

    Hi Geoff,

    There is one thing you could do to help… I’ve got a gut feeling that some language changes were made in the past update (4.05), but I wasn’t the one to make them and can’t find the odd/changed string anywhere in the two glotpress environments…

    It now says ‘Evenementen Archief’, even after re-downloading and installing both mo/po files for CORE and PRO. This most definetely wasn’t the case before the upgrade, it was something like “Alle Evenementen” or “All Events”. I can’t find the phrase ‘Archief’ anywhere in the glotpress environment, so I was wondering where this could be coming from.

    As this might have something to do with the bad translations Bart mentioned, I thought it’d be worth mentioning.

    Thanks for reporting this Hans. While it is true that we cannot do much in terms of actually editing the translations, we can ensure that everything is properly translatable, and does not conflict with other translations.

    I do not find “archief” in any of my own versions of our mo and po files, so that is an odd find. I’m sorry to admit that I don’t have any immediate explanations for this! But it’s not in our currently-released mo and po files, and so we will have to investigate a bit on this to ensure it’s erroneously on the translations site or anything either.

    No problem! I unfortunately don’t have any more updates at this time, but we’ve introduced a number of translation-related fixes in the next release. So, stay tuned for that when it comes out — it’s coming some time in the next few weeks, and should address a number of issues.

    Some strings will not be translated upon release, of course, because translations are community-submitted. So it might take some time for any new translations to be posted. But more strings should be translatable, which is a huge part of some of the issues touched on in this thread…

    I’ll close up this thread for now. Best of luck with your projects in the meantime 🙂
