GuestHi,
I am interested in using the Aggregator to add Facebook events to a website I am developing. I am concerned about importing and presenting images that I am not sure are copyright safe. Just because a person added them to their facebook event doesn’t mean they are safe for me to present and use on my website without risking copyright violations and fines. I want to know if its possible to simply skip the image import and use a default image (per category would be fine, or even random from a library of image choices I have that I know are copyright safe to use).
I am hoping this is possible because this looks like a great way to add events but the risk of copyright infringement is also very high unless I can choose the images from a safe source. Please advise.
Thanks,

ParticipantHey Marisa,
Thanks for reaching out!
This is a totally valid concern and I am interested in helping out here as much as possible. There’s unfortunately no way to really gain control over each image, specifically, upon import.
What you can do, however, is set the “Post Status” for imported events to something like “Draft” or “Pending Review”. This way, no imported event is automatically published; you’d have to manually review each item before you yourself manually click “Publish”.
If you identify and image for an event while reviewing it before publishing, you can delete the imported image and replace it with a safe one, and then publish it when you’re ready.
Event Aggregator has an “Update Authority” setting within it that, in unison with this post status control, should be quite helpful here: the “Update Authority” settings would let you ensure that your custom-chosen Featured Images are not overwritten by the Facebook.com version of the image, should the original Facebook.com version of the event get changed at all after you import it and publish it.
Let me know what you think of this, and if there are any other questions I can try to help with. 😀
Cheers,

GuestThanks for your reply. Your suggestion is noted, but as you can imagine it will lead to a large workload. In addition, even uploading the image on the server can trigger a fine (I know this because it actually happened and the image in question was never even published to a post). I sure hope after understanding my concerns and the likelihood of a ridiculous amount of online litigation coming soon regarding copyrights, that you simply add the option to not import the image from another source. Then each site owner can determine their acceptable level of risk. I want none so I would simply not import any images and only use confirmed safe images in my library. Obviously the best option would be to offer the option to not upload the images plus the option to use default images per category if desired.
Anyway, thanks for your reply. Since TEC is the leader in the industry for events calendars, I truly hope you consider this option.Regards,

ParticipantThis is a great idea for sure, Marisa. It’s something I can assure we will consider, though unfortunately even if it is something we decide to add to our plugins it’ll likely not arrive in our plugins for at least several release cycles from now (which could translate into several months at the earliest).
Just wanted to set your expectations there!
