Advice on Displaying Many Events at One Venue

Hi,

We’re building a site for a venue that hosts several multi-day events as well as several of its own. I’m looking for some advice on how to organize and display these events on various pages.

For example, they host a Renaissance fest over two days with 8 or so venues operating continuously during each day of the event. Often those events are the same on both days, sometimes they are not. We’d like to generate a layout like the one listed in the screenshot below:

I’ve reviewed the widget that allows displaying events at a specific venue but it doesn’t have a limit on date as far as I see and can only display up to 10 items, which might now be enough with some of our events.

The client has about 6 different types of events of this sort per year. I don’t mind some programming and css theming if that’s what it takes. Just looking for some direction on organization and display.

Thanks for reaching out to us on this, I’ll try to help you decide what would be the best way to organize these events…

One option I think would work (but not with the same layout) is to group all of this events in a special event category ‘Renaissance Fest 2016’ (for example), and then link to the week view of the calendar filtered by event category, just like: http://yousite.com/events/week/category/renaissance-fest-2016/

Other option is to be creative with the event description and include Widget Shortcodes to show what’s up in each venue. When you use the Featured Venue shortcode you can specify the limit of events to show, regarding the date, it will always show upcoming events! You might need to remove the widgets from the description after the event has passed.
