ParticipantI am using the existing “Event Categories” in my calendar, but I need to create an additional field that basically duplicates the functionality of the “Event Categories.” I’d just need to change the name to “Event Type” and have different names/values for those. However, I do not want the field to appear with my other “Additional Fields.” Therefore, unless it is possible to display the Additional Fields in different locations on the single event view, that method would unfortunately not work in this case.
With that said, for someone like myself with limited coding knowledge, what would be the best way to accomplish this? Any advice on how I should start?
Thank you,

MemberHi Sean!
So if you want to duplicate the functionality of event categories then a new custom taxonomy is probably the way to go. This is really a general WordPress-development task and not something we can offer a huge amount of guidance on, but the Codex certainly covers it in some depth.
Hope that helps!

ParticipantThanks very much for the advice Barry. I’ve created a new taxonomy using the Types plugin and have associated it with the Events post type. So the first part is all set.
I’m not sure what files I need to create/edit to get my new custom taxonomy functioning with TEC PRO and Community Events though. Could I refer to the files the “Event Categories” uses and simply plug in my custom taxonomy name? If so, what files would those be? Hoping that someone can help point this newbie in the right direction!
Thanks for any insight,

MemberHi Sean,
It sounds like you are making great progress – especially if you’ve come into this with limited coding knowldge – and we’d love to help further: unfortunately though we just don’t have bandwidth to do so and customization requests like this really have to be driven forward by you.
All we could really offer is a list of suitable freelancers/independent developers who might be able to take you the ‘extra mile’ on this one. Would that be of interest?

ParticipantHi Barry,
Totally understand and appreciate the help you’ve been able to provide up to this point. If you have a shortlist of recommended developers that are familiar with customizing The Events Calendar that would be great to have.January 21, 2014 at 7:11 am #95133Barry
