Add extra taxomony for events

Hi,
I need a front-end filter to let my users select all events in a certain region/state. Maybe I can do this by the build-in state-field? I am not certain how to to this front-end wise though. May the new filterbar can help me out, but seeing the tutorial, I’m not getting the impression that the bar can filter on state/province/region.

I’m thinking that this maybe should be a extra taxonomy on the event creating, next to Event Category. There I could have Event Region, with 5 fixed regions for instance. Then I could add the taxonomy to the Filterbar. Well, I sure need guidance to achieve either of this 🙂

Does map view get you any closer to where you want to be with this? If not and you don’t feel filter view will help you achieve your aims you’d really need to build a custom solution of your own.
