GuestHi. We’re familiar with your plugins (love them!) and were getting set to purchase many of them for use on our new project (a website whose main feature will be a calendar). However, we just saw that you are set to release version 4.0 in November. As such, we are a bit hesitant to purchase and make our necessary customization’s if the plugins (ECP, Community Events and Filter Bar) will be seeing significant changes in 4.0. We don’t want to put 100+ hours of work (and money) into the customization’s only to have to either redo the work after 4.0 releases, or worse, to find out that custom functionality we’ve added happened to be a new feature in 4.0.
Can you please let us know if 4.0 would cause any properly extended/customized code to become invalid (e.g. hooks or filters being renamed, etc)? More importantly, would you be able to share a top-level overview of the new features and changes we can expect with 4.0? That’d allow us to discuss the details with the development agency we’ll be working with to determine our best course of action.
Again, any info you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

GuestIf it’s okay for me to chime in here, I’d like to request, if possible, that you also give an overview of the bundles that will be available under the new 4.0 pricing model, even if you can’t yet give details of prices themselves.

ParticipantHowdy Karly,
It’s nice to meet you. I am happy you enjoy our plugins so much.
Version 4.0 will be a major release of the plugin which is why we are jumping to the number 4. In order to craft some requested features and improvements we do have to break backwards compatibility in some place. We are doing our utmost to introduce all upcoming breaking changes in the 4.x series at once, in 4.0. That way anything developed for 4.0 will be in a good spot for the foreseeable future.
We are simultaneously going to continue maintaining a 3.x version of our plugin for a little while, to give existing projects time to switch.
As a new project you might be interested in our upcoming beta of 4.x (sign up here). Further, if you are interested in an early preview of 4.x I can double check with my manager and see if I could get you one. At this point I believe 100% of the features have been developed, and we are passing this over to our QA team. It is almost guaranteed that there are still ample bugs and perhaps some usability issues in 4.x which we will work to iron out between now and November. But if you would be interested in a buggy but fairly feature complete version of 4.x to begin developing against, I would be glad to see if I could provide one.
Does that answer your questions? Cheers!

ParticipantHowdy Phil,
I do not believe we have completely ironed out those details yet. One package I know will be available is a Community + Tickets package, which will coincide with our release of the new Community submitted tickets. Further I expect there will be a set of bundles contain Pro + other product of your choice.
Did you have a bundle you were hoping to see? We would love feedback!
Just so you know we typically try to keep each topic focused on one persons question. This ensures that every question and user gets our full attention. If you would like to discuss in detail this please feel free to open a new topic and we can continue the conversation there. 🙂
Cheers!

GuestHi Brook,
Thanks for the reply.
The products I need are: Pro, Filter Bar, Facebook Events, Community Events & Community Tickets. I’m not sure what bundles would cover those. I guess every site has different requirements. From my point of view, the simplest way would be to offer a sliding-scale discount for buying multiple add-ons: the more you spend, the greater the discount.
I’ll make sure to open my own threads in future.

ParticipantThank you for the feedback Phil. That would certainly be simple, and we like to keep things simple if possible. I will pass that along to the folks who will ultimately be making the bundles.

GuestHi Brook,
Thank you so much for these details. It is helpful to know that backwards compatibility will not be possible in all areas. That fact alone would probably mean waiting for 4.0 would be best. Glad to hear that most (if not all) of the breaking changes are being put into 4.0 so that future development/customization would be not be broken for some time (ideally until 5.0).
We would definitely be interested in obtaining an early preview of 4.x. Although it wouldn’t be usable, if all new features and major changes can be found in that early copy, it would at least allow us to determine what customization’s we need to drop from our planned project (if they were added in 4.x) as well as any other factors we should take into account for the other customization’s we will be making.
Please let me know if you’d need anything further from my end in order to request a copy of the early preview/buggy 4.0.
Thanks,

GuestPS – We’re planning to use the Avada theme in conjunction with ECP, Community Events, Filter Bar, and Facebook Events. I noticed that your team is currently working with Theme Fusion to test any issues that were reported:
In the past it appears that some users had trouble making some customization’s when combining Avada with ECP. Can you please confirm what, if any, compatibility issues still exist between Avada and The Events Calendar (and the add-ons)? Since we’ll be extending the core calendar significantly, we just want to make sure we’re aware of any potential hurdles and/or roadblocks before we move forward with purchasing the theme and your plugins.

ParticipantHowdy Karly,
That sounds awesome. Our current 4.0 release is still split amongst a few feature branches that have not all been merged yet. Once they are we would be happy to provide you with the alpha version of those 5 plugins.
If everything goes according to plan that will be ready on October 14. I am making a note to check back with you at that time. It’s possible the schedule will shift, but hopefully not.
Cheers!

GuestThank you very much Brook! Very much looking forward to checking out the Alpha version of the plugins (ideally) next week.
In the meantime, do you have any info on the Avada compatibility concerns? Looks like there had been some discussions between Modern Tribe and Theme Fusion about increasing compatibility:
https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/users/nicosantos/replies/page/10/#dl_post-1003524Are there any issues you and Theme Fusion are working on testing to resolve incompatibilities? For example:
As long as there are no hurdles, we’d be purchasing ECP, Community Events, Filter Bar, and Facebook Events. Would the pricing be changing next month for those (e.g. discount for purchasing the 4), or would the Personal price remain $89 for each, with Facebook Events being $49?
Best regards,

ParticipantHave you checked out Avada 3.8.7 released this morning? It is a massive update when it comes to compatibility with The Events Calendar. The fine folks at theme Fusion have been working on it for a while. To my knowledge it address all existing compatibility issues.
As long as there are no hurdles, we’d be purchasing ECP, Community Events, Filter Bar, and Facebook Events. Would the pricing be changing next month for those (e.g. discount for purchasing the 4), or would the Personal price remain $89 for each, with Facebook Events being $49?
The owners of Modern Tribe are the ones trying to hash out a good bulk pricing setup for the next releases. They have been analyzing folks needs, measuring the money spent maintaining it, and so forth to come up with something that will hopgully benefit everyone. But they are not yet done so we do not know what prices will be like for now. We’ll announce it once its ready though.
Cheers!

GuestHi Brook,
Wow! I had not yet seen that update earlier today for Avada. Looks like it’s exactly what we were looking for and more.
Totally understand about the plans for the bulk pricing being TBD at this point.
Will be eagerly awaiting the Alpha version of 4.0!
Best,

ParticipantThe new Avada is an exciting release. I will get back to you once we have an early test version of our plugins ready. Until then, ta!

ParticipantBrook, just had one question I’m hoping you can answer in the meantime. Have any changes or additions been made to the CSV Import tool? We are customizing that to enable each event to be associated with its proper author (as opposed to all imported events being associated with the account that performs the import). Just wanted to know if we could start that development now or if we should review the Alpha version of 4.0 if that functionality has been modified. Thank you.

ParticipantThat’s a cool addition Karly. It is not something we are working on as we have not yet seen any users request it.
That said, if you guys are developing this feature and interested in sharing it as a pull request on our Github repo, we might be able to give you a license or more in exchange for sharing. Basically if our strategist feels the submitted code is a good fit for our codebase, we will give you a license or two for your site.
Let me know if there is anything else. Cheers!
