Can You Have Multiple Calendars?

We’re often asked if you can have multiple event calendars on your site. As of version 4.3 of The Events Calendar and Events Calendar Pro, you can embed full calendar views anywhere you would like on your site.

To have multiple calendars across your site, you simply need to take advantage of the [tribe_events] shortcode. To learn how to use this shortcode, check out its official documentation page here.

Other Options

If you are not using version 4.3 of The Events Calendar and Events Calendar Pro, don’t have Events Calendar Pro, or just otherwise don’t want to use the [tribe_events] shortcode, no sweat—there are some other ways you can give the appearance of having multiple calendars on your site (even though, for the following methods, you won’t truly have separate calendars).

Widgets and Event Embeds

You can use some of the widgets provided by The Events Calendar and Events Calendar Pro to show simpler versions of event views in various locations. You can also embed single events where needed.

Using Event Categories to Give the Illusion of Multiple Calendars

You can approximate the appearance of having multiple calendars by using Event Categories and linking to category-filtered calendar views.

As an example, let’s say you’re trying to have one event calendar for events in the “Outdoors” category, and then another calendar for events in the “Indoors” category. To make the illusion of each being its own separate calendar, you would do the following steps:

  • Make all “Outdoors” events belong to the “Outdoors” events category. (Screenshot)
  • Make all “Indoors” events belong to the “Indoors” events category. (Screenshot)
  • Head to Appearance → Menus in your site’s /wp-admin.
  • Using the “Custom Links” menu type, add custom event category links to the above categories. Here is a screenshot of the “Custom Links” menu type.
    • If your events page was at example.com/events, then you would link to the “Outdoors” events by linking to example.com/events/category/outdoors
    • You would then link to the “Indoors” events by linking to example.com/events/category/indoors
  • Once you add the appropriate menu links to the event categories, click “Save Menu.”
  • In this example, you will now have two links in the site’s navigation menu. One will link to “Outdoor Events”, which is the normal calendar view but ONLY with events in the “Outdoors” category showing. The other will link to “Indoor Events”, and when clicked will link to the same calendar view, but ONLY with events in the “Indoors” category showing.
  • So, while still technically one calendar, the different category filters make it appear that the Indoors events and Outdoors events exist on separate calendar.
