Barry,
I thought the problem might be a conflict between the Events (which are actually “posts” that are automatically listed on the static home page using the category “events” and the fact that the calendar slug was also “events.”
I was just checking in to tell you I fixed the problem by renaming the slugs (cal_events and cal_event) and it created a new calendar and used the existing events list. I noticed that the newly created widget had the url to the new calendar, but the previous widget did not have the url to the previous calendar. Maybe that was the problem. Anyhow, all is well for now.
