Will Woo Tickets work if we set it up as you suggest – create an 8-week class with8 recurring events and only sell tix on the first one?
I read that Woo Tix won’t work with recurring events.

ParticipantHey @laughmasters!
Yes, if you create a recurring event that recurs 8 times but sell tickets for it on just that first event, it should work fine for you.
The trick is to go that first event in the seares and “break it from the series” before you try adding tickets to it. To do this, you should be able to just head to the single event on the front-end of your site after you create it. Look in the “Edit Event” button in your admin toolbar, and if you hover over this you should see a link that says “break from series”, like in this screenshot:

Then you should be able to create tickets for just that first event without issue, while the 7 remaining events remain linked together in a “recurring event series”.
Does this all make sense? Let me know if you have any further questions or if there’s anything else I can help with!
Thanks,

ParticipantDoes “break from series” mean that I now have 2 different events on the calendar? One – the first day with tix, and a second with the remaining 7 days of classes? How would this affect the monthly and list views – if at all?

ParticipantHey @laughmasters,
Yes, splitting the event will leave the “recurrence series” of 7 events intact as one set of events, and then create another standalone event that you broke off.
This won’t change much in the views, there will just be the same events on the same days but one will not be part of the series any more.

ParticipantOK so just to be clear:
Month view will look the same.
List view will not look the same – since there will now be 2 events: the broken away event with tickets, and the 7 remaining events is this right? And if so, won’t this be confusing?

ParticipantHey @Laughmasters,
There should be no visible difference as far as users are concerned, in any view. This is because, let’s say you have a recurring event that recurs “daily”, so in other words it happens on Monday, then Tuesday, then Wednesday, and then its last date is on Thursday.
On any calendar view, there will be one event on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and on Thursday. 4 events listed, in other words, regardless of what view you’re in. And each event, if you go to the “single event” view for it, will say “Recurring event” and have the “View All” link.
Now, let’s say you split Monday off of the series. After doing this, nothing will change to the user: there will still be one event each on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and on Thursday. 4 events listed, in other words, regardless of what view you’re in.
The only difference is that if you go Tuesday’s event, or Wednesday’s, or Thursday’s, that “Recurring Event” and “View All” link will show up. But on Monday, that link won’t be there.
This example illustrates the feature, it will work the same whether the recurring event is daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, anything at all.
I hope that helps! Play around with this directly on your site and see for yourself how it all looks – it hopefully works well for you and meets your needs.
Cheers!
