Robin
ParticipantI would like my single event listings to appear the way they do when I select “Tribe Events Styles” and “Default Page Template” in the Basic Template Settings under the “Display Settings” tab.
However, I prefer the look of the Events Calendar page when it is on the “Default Events Template”. How can I use both templates?
thanks…

MemberHi Robin. Thanks for your detailed question.
https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/wp-admin-settings-overview/#display describes our Display settings.
And it links to a help article about the “Events template” option in the settings page: https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/stylesheets-and-page-templates/
If I understood your request, your plugin settings are “Tribe Event Styles” and “Default Page Template”, but you want the “Default Events Template” only for the main calendar/archive page.
I think you could accomplish what you’re wanting by referencing our Themer’s Guide. You could copy the template file you’re wanting to use to your child theme (e.g. for the month view).
Does this make sense?

MemberRobin, possibly another way to accomplish what you’re wanting (possibly without the need for the Themer’s Guide unless you want additional customizations) is to leverage the template_include filter.
In my quickie testing, I didn’t get it to work perfectly, but it could be a hint in the right direction.

ParticipantHi Cliff,
Thank you for your suggestions. I apologize for my delay in responding.I’m afraid your solution referencing https://codex.wordpress.org/Plugin_API/Filter_Reference/template_include
is beyond my current skills. I kind of understand the idea but don’t really know how to implement it, as I don’t know php. What’s frustrating to me is that on the 2.x version of the Events Calendar that I was using up until about 6 weeks ago, the pages displayed perfectly, as I describe in my OP. The Calendar Grid view used a full-width template page and the single event views used a default page template with a sidebar, where the event list widget appeared. And I have no recollection as to how I set it up to work that way!
The themer’s guide you reference shows me how to select and copy the plugin files into my theme, but again, not knowing php I don’t know how to modify them to suit my needs.
Any other suggestions?
thank you,
Robin

MemberRobin, I am sorry to hear your upgrade from version 2 to 3 wasn’t as smooth as you would have wanted.
Heads up: we’re planning to release version 4 within a month or so.
Hopefully you’ll agree that versions 3 and 4 are major improvements over version 2.
